    About Wexford Plantation

Wexford Plantation opened in 1982, the same year as Long Cove Club. Possibly the most exclusive site on the island, these 525 acres of golf and residences are located on the south end of Hilton Head. Marathon Oil built Wexford using the Governor’s Mansion in Williamsburg, The Congressional Club in Washington, and the Cloisters in Sea Island as influences. Evidence of the grand intent lies in the Georgian marble entrance foyer and the stained glass skylights inside the plantation’s multi-million dollar clubhouse; another clue to the community’s elaborate nature is in the 24-carat gold lettered street signs, copper-domed street lamps, and the intricate hand-laid stone bridges. Unique to Wexford is the 37.5-acre harbour on Broad Creek containing 130 slips for resident use, not to mention the boat slips adjacent to estate homes for private dockage.

    Security Features

The entry gate is locked down with 24-hour security, keeping this private community safe yet allowing access to guests and visitors with residents’ permission.

    Wexford Plantation: History

Plans for Wexford Plantation were approved in mid-1982 and underwent development at the same time as Shelter Cove, right after Long Cove Club got started. The Sea Pines Company designed Wexford to counter current Sea Pines residents’ dissatisfaction with the resort their neighborhood had become. It was envisioned as a private and upscale residential golf community, and became to wealth what Sea Pines was to nature and activity. Wexford was named for a British port known for being a major land-water connection, and was designed to attract residents to its land-water luxuries as well as its ideas for conservation.
