Not to be confused with Palmetto Dunes, Palmetto Hall is a strictly residential community. One of the few plantations to allow its 550 members to own private carts for transportation, this area is the second plantation on the left just off the William Hilton Parkway. As one of Hilton Head’s youngest, Palmetto Hall is 750 acres’ worth of private golfing neighborhood. The Coastal Discovery Museum nearby offers tours showcasing the history of the area, including information on the area’s history with the Union Navy’s Southern Blockade.

Palmetto Hall is another plantation community of Greenwood Development Corporation. GDC purchased the land around the same time as it acquired Palmetto Dunes and the Shelter Cove area. Palmetto Hall Plantation was designed for younger families seeking less expensive single-family homes in a plantation setting with security, golf, and tennis. In early 2006, Heritage Golf Group worked out a long-term lease with CNL Income Properties, who had just purchased Palmetto Hall Plantation Club for over $7 million, to operate the community and subsequently placed Claude Thorn as general manager.
