Forest Beach Amenities
Overview: Coligny Plaza
Locals refer to Forest Beach as "downtown Hilton Head" for good reasons. Coligny Plaza and the Beach Market consist of tourist-y gift shops and boutiques as well as unique restaurants and daiquiri bars, and even a police station. Set beside the traffic circle, Coligny Plaza is a collection of fun stores (fudge shops, candle makers, and Rita's Italian Ice, a Hilton Head Island staple) located straight down Pope Avenue from some of the island's best nightlife venues. The nearby Park Plaza and what locals refer to as the "Triangle" collectively contain approximately 10 bars/clubs for either a lively night out or a quiet evening on the town.
Interesting Facts
North Forest Beach, the residential section, has been nicknamed the 'bird streets' for obvious reasons (each street is named for a species of bird). Dove Street, only one of these small and sandy roads, is known for its decorations for the Christmas season; and Jacana Street is a gathering place for the island's dedicated surfers because the wave patterns there are the best HHI has to offer at high tide.
On a side note, Coligny Beach (where North and South Forest Beaches meet) is known as the best beach for the younger of-age crowd. Its collection of hotels bordering the oceanfront features the Tiki Hut, located at the Holiday Inn, which is the island's only public beach bar.
